SQUID GAME: THE CHALLENGE
Project type: XR, VP & Experiential
Date: January - February 2023
I had the privilege of working on Netflix's first series of Squid Game: The Challenge, based on the South Korean drama series Squid Game. The show features 456 players competing for a staggering US$4.56 million, the largest single cash prize in reality television history. My role in this project was contributing to operating dynamic graphics system developed by the coding team at Potion Pictures.
Key elements of my responsibilities included managing two large screens in the Dorm and Briefing Room, which served as primary means of communication with the contestants and were prominently featured throughout filming. Additionally, I handled smaller screens used for timers during the games, ensuring seamless integration and functionality across all visual elements.
I worked onsite at the filming location for two weeks, covering a variety of day and night shifts. During this time, I encountered numerous scenarios where the production team requested specific screen reactions to enhance the show's dramatic moments. One such instance was the money drop moment, where I coordinated the prize total to count up on the screen in sync with the physical cash dropping into the elevated piggy bank in the dorm room.
